"Opening Bark" Dog Party, April 12, 2003

The day began with pouring rain. Should we cancel? AccuWeather predicted it would stop by noon, and at noon we were all standing around wondering. At 12.05 pm it stopped raining, and within a few minutes there was some blue sky and a little later the sun came out. Everyone rushed around setting up stalls, and the dogs didn't care whether there was rain or sun - they adored the floods. There were plenty of floods (this way to Noah's Ark. Two by two, please...) and everything soon became mud-spattered. But nobody minded; we were all so happy to see the sun after what seemed like weeks of rain.

People soon showed up to support the Hamden Dog Park by purchasing coffee and donuts, cookies and cupcakes, bandannas, home-made cookies, and icecream for their dogs, and Hamden Dog Park t-shirts. Mayor Amento and his family (and their Bichon, Zoe) were among the many people and dogs who ignored the mud and enjoyed the fun.

Thanks to Agway and The Hole Scoop for their generous donations, and to everyone who worked so hard to make this fundraiser a big success!
