Past Fundraising Activities

Since we began raising money for the dog park, we have had several events, all of which have not only raised money, from around $2000 to around $100, but have also helped us to get the word out about dog parks, what they are, why we need them, and, specifically, about the new Hamden Dog Park at Bassett (and they were a lot of fun for us and our pooches too).

Opening Bark Dog Party, April 12, 2003

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! WE HAD A VERY SUCCESSFUL FUNDRAISER DESPITE WET CONDITIONS AT THE PARK. Check out the pictures.

The "Opening Bark" Dog Party took place on Saturday, April 12, 2003, from noon to 4 at the Hamden Dog Park at Bassett.

Refreshments for dogs and people were available for purchase as well as the new R-DOG/Hamden Dog Park collectible t-shirt. Click here for information about purchasing a t-shirt and other Dog Park merchandise.

This party was organized as both a social and fundraising event. To fulfill our commitment to the Park we have ongoing expenses for the replenishment of Dogipot bags, general repairs, and new picnic tables and benches. In addition to the t-shirts and refreshments, inscribed brick sponsorships were available for purchase. http://www.hamdenrdog.org/fundraising.html.

In preparation for this event we held a Spring Clean-up on Saturday April, 5th. Pictures here.

R-DOG at the Hamden Petco in December 2001 and the North Haven Petco in February, 2002

Many people stopped by the R-DOG table on Saturday and Sunday, December 14 and 15, and on Saturday, February 2 and Sunday, February 10 to get information, give a donation, sponsor an inscribed brick for the dog park patio ($40 and $100), buy a bandanna or dog cookies, or just to shoot the breeze. This is a great way to tell people about our vision or to fill them in on some of the details of the dog park they'd already heard about. We plan to do some more sessions soon. Thank you, Petco, for welcoming us.

Below: While we were at Petco in North Haven on February 2, Jeanie, the photographer who was working there that morning, had a slow few minutes and donated a portrait of the intrepid fundraisers. Thank you, Jeanie! You do a wonderful job. And your background looks EXACTLY like our new dog park!

R-DOG's Holiday Pet Photos

The second (annual, we hope) Hamden R-DOG holiday fundraising event, Holiday Pet Photos, was held on Saturday, November 17, 2001, from 11 to 3 p.m., at the Veterans' Memorial Building at Brooksvale Park, Brooksvale Avenue, Hamden.

Photographer Jerry Domian took pictures of dogs or cats (with or without their owners) with Santa or against a Hanukkah background. Prints cost $7 each; a floppy disk with an electronic image suitable for e-mailing or for greeting cards was an additional $3. Pets were required to be up-to-date on their vaccinations; dogs were on a leash and cats in cat carriers.

This was a fine event, resulting in over $600 toward our goal. The proceeds from the event will go toward the construction of Hamden's first dog park, the Hamden Dog Park at Bassett.

Here are some neat pictures from the 2001 event:

R-DOG's Walk in the Park

The Hamden R-DOG's Walk in the Park fundraiser on September 30, 2001 was a great success (we raised around $2000) with almost 200 people and their dogs participating. Despite a cold gray afternoon, the spirit was warm and sunny, and a wonderful time was had by all.

Here's a slideshow of the Walk.
